Critics Reviews For On Q

Made up of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Apassionata gives intense crème de cassis, chocolate box, spice cake and fragrant earth with cigar box and menthol. Full and rich, this behemoth is densely packed, with firm, grainy tannins and a very long, spicy finish. [96 points]

2015 Appassionata Cab Sauvignon

Opens with cedar and vanilla pod notes over a core of creme de cassis, baked plums and dried mulberries with touches of spice cake, menthol, licorice and chocolate box. The oak stands out slightly at this stage on the full-bodies palate, with a firm, grainy frame and just enough freshness, finishing long and spicy. [95 Points]

Robert Parker Wine Advocate

2013 Appassionata Cab Sauvignon

It offers a big step up in quality with its beautiful bouquet of creme de cassis, crushed violets, graphite, and charcoal-like aromas and flavors. These carry to a medium to full-bodied, silky wine that has light, finesse-driven tannins, terrific balance, and a great finish. [93 Points]

2016 Appassionata Cab Sauvignon

This inky colored beauty boasts terrific notes of blackberries, currants, charcoal, graphite, and lead pencil shavings. With full-bodied richness, beautiful concentration, plenty of ripe tannins, and a savory, classic style, it has the polish and texture to drink nicely today but is going to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and should cruise for two decades or more. [95 Points]

2014 Appassionata Cab Sauvignon

Appassionata has an even inkier blue/purple color and stunning nose of blackberries, blueberries, graphite and spring flowers. It is much more youthful and less evolved compared to the 2012, but even more concentrated and delineated. This is a sensational effort, but again, production is extremely small. Ideally, this begs for several years of bottle age, but is should evolve and drink well for 20-25 years. [95 Points]

Robert Parker Wine Advocate

2013 Appassionata Cab Sauvignon

This Cabernet Sauvignon-based Bordeaux style blend is highly perfumed and exotic with notes of lily, lilac, red rose, sandalwood, cedar chest, cigar box, cinnamon, black currant, black raisin, and sun-dried tomato. Initially very smooth and supple, astringent grape (from the Cabernet grape’s skin) and oak (from new French oak barrels) tannins kick in for a big, meaty, chewy finish. This very recently released wine will age gracefully for several years, but if you can’t wait, decant an hour or two before serving, and pair with braised or grilled meats or game. [96 Points]

2011 Appassionata Cab Sauvignon

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Apassionata is a classic 2012. Flamboyant and dramatic, with loads of sweet blackcurrant fruit as well as touches earth, camphor and charcoal embers, this Cabernet is fleshy, almost fat, with full-bodied opulence and a seductive, velvety finish. There’s no reason to defer gratification on this luscious wine, which is made in relatively small quantities (125 cases). Drink it over the next 10-12 years. ~93 Points

2012 Appassionatta Cab Sauvigon

Composed of 81% Cabernet Sauvingon, 15% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Apassionata has an inky purple-black color and conjures notions of crème de cassis, chocolate box and aniseed with hints of chargrilled meat, fertile earth and menthol. Full-bodied and full-on opulent in the mouth, it features seductively rich, ripe fruit with a solid frame and a long, expressive finish. [94+ Points]

Appassionata Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2013 Appassionata displays an incredibly opaque, dark purple core with hints of magenta and ruby on the rim. The nose delights with aromas of blackcurrant liqueur, blueberry, blackberry, black cherry and violets over complex secondary notes of cacao, tobacco, a touch of wet leather, crushed earth, a kiss of ground coffee, finely crushed stones, vanilla bean and exotic baking spices. The full-bodied palate is layered with dense, captivating flavors that mirror the nose with lush black and blue fruit, coffee, chocolate, a touch of tobacco, crushed earth and beautifully integrated exotic spices from new French oak.
