Cabernet Sauvignon - Appassionata

$1,110.00 USD

Robert Parker awarded 96 points to the On Q Appassionata Cabernet Sauvignon, but, it isn’t just wine critics who adore this wine. Across hundreds of Vivino ratings On Q is ranked as a top 1% cabernet worldwide.

A Rockstar Winemaker:

Maayan Koschitzky, winemaker at On Q behind the Appassionata Cabernet Sauvignon, brings his cult winemaking expertise from Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle and Atelier Melka, three of the most celebrated wine estates in the Napa Valley.

Koschitzky’s time at Screaming Eagle forever changed how he thought about wine making.  They had a unique philosophy. They never cut corners. They never dropped standards. Only exceptional fruit from the best vineyards would make the cut. He now brings this philosophy to On Q which you can experience with this Cabernet Sauvignon – Appassionata.

The Cult Cabernet From Napa’s Coombsville:

Napa’s newest AVA, The Coombsville region, is becoming the center of attention for Naapa wine lovers as the fresh taste of the wines contain tastes which can’t be found in other parts of the valley. At the base of the formerly volcanic Mt. George, the vineyards which produce the grapes for Appassionata are meticulously maintained.

The complex volcanic soils coupled with the ideal microclimate led to the AVA classification, which has quickly made this special pocket one of the most sought-after spots in Napa.

At On Q, yields are kept painstakingly low, and diligent farming practices result in some of the most coveted fruit of the appellation.

Tasting Profile:

This pristine 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is hand-picked and sorted then classically crafted with 3-4 weeks of fermentation followed by 26 months aging in entirely new French oak. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration and reveals a pure snapshot of Coombsville. As Maayan says, “this wine is not overly creative. It’s fairly straightforward between fruit and the bottle.” Manipulation is eschewed in favor of capturing a natural product of striking terroir. The only outside characteristic that exists is the complimentary oak influence. The result is an absolutely stunning cult-style Cabernet.

The 2016 Appassionata displays an incredibly opaque, dark purple core with hints of magenta and ruby on the rim. The nose delights with aromas of blackcurrant liqueur, blueberry, blackberry, black cherry and violets over complex secondary notes of cacao, tobacco, a touch of wet leather, crushed earth, a kiss of ground coffee, finely crushed stones, vanilla bean and exotic baking spices. The full-bodied palate is layered with dense, captivating flavors that mirror the nose with lush black and blue fruit, coffee, chocolate, a touch of tobacco, crushed earth and beautifully integrated exotic spices from new French oak. Proper service temperature is crucial for this wine. For optimal results, enjoy around 60-65 degrees in Bordeaux stems after 30 minutes in a decanter.

The Appassionata Cabernet from On Q is still flying under the radar. We expect it to sell out instantly when the words gets out. As this is an age-worthy wine, wine aficionados will be looking to buy these in volume and cellar them for years to come. If you wait, you may end up paying a large premium.
